It is absolutely CRAZY how fast time passes. 4 years of college just seemed to fly by, and it has now left me extremely confused, especially now during all the craziness of what is going on in the world. During this time of uncertainty, I am sitting here wondering what the heck do I do now. The past 21 year of my life have always been a direct path to this exact moment and now there are so many ways I can turn. Graduate school, getting a job, moving wherever I want to in the world. I AM CONFUSED!!
So, as I was in the middle of yet another quarter life crisis (shoutout to my overthinking brain), I decided to start my new post-grad life with a clean slate and a goals list. The very first thing I did was go through my social media account and unfriend/unfollow any people that I did not necessarily need in my life. People I do not want to know my life or just did not add much value anymore. My Facebook friends went from over 1000 to in the 800’s and let me tell you it felt FREEING. I went through snapchat and Instagram as well, unfollowed anything or anybody that would interfere with my mental wellbeing. Next came the part I was most excited for, creating a goals list of things I wanted to improve on or change in my life. This is specific to me and how I want to start to live my new adult life, and hopefully it will benefit my life in a positive way. I am a huge list maker so it was so much fun to sit down and really reflect on the things that meant most in my life and decide what was most important for my future.
- Eliminate fast food. This is a very common goal for people but in college its so hard to do. Now, I can focus on eliminating eating out and have less distractions from friends, partying, and just always being busy. I deleted all of the food apps on my phone (except Starbucks and Dunkin of course) so that I would not have the temptation right in front of me. This goal will hopefully help me both physically, and financially.
- Cut down unnecessary spending. Along with deleting all my food apps, I deleted all my shopping apps as well. This way when I am bored, I will not be tempted to browse and make unnecessary purchases. With student loans and future expenses to worry about, I want to start to shape my financial future in a much more beneficial way. Creating a new savings account and learning more about finances is something I began to do too. If I want to be the mom that can afford to do Pilates and get green juices with my girls on the weekends and spend her afternoons on the boat, I need to start saving NOW.
- Getting involved in something that will not necessarily benefit me. All through college everything I have done was to help me grow, learn, or gain connections. Everything I did was to benefit my future. However, now I want to find a regular volunteer opportunity that I can go to and give back to the community. I am hoping that this will add more meaning into my life so that I am more involved in things in the future. After being involved in so many organizations in college, going cold turkey would just make life very boring and bland. Finding the perfect place to spend my time is one of my top priorities.
My other 3 goals are very basic and self-explainable; creating a new workout schedule that will fit with my post-grad life, nailing down a new morning and night-time routine, and reading at least 1 book every month (or two months, I can be a slow reader). I am hoping that with these goals to focus on, it will help bring more balance in my life after graduating, and it will help me adjust into the adult world.
While everything may seem so uncertain right now, I am extremely grateful for the amount of opportunities I do have in front of me. Having so many different ways that I can start my new life is terrifying but amazing, and even though it might take a lot of time to navigate through these different paths, it is refreshing to know that my future is completely in my own hands now. I can shape it in whatever way I want, and if I do not like it then I can change it within a second. The world truly is our oyster and I am SO excited to see what is inside.
