Post Holiday Weekend Detox

I have recently been living my BEST life! I had a week off of work for 4th of July and you bet I treated myself every one of those days. Sadly, the weekend is coming to a close and tomorrow is yet another Monday. BACK TO BUSINESS BABY! I desperately need a little detox week after eating all the yummy holiday and travel foods. Detoxing after eating whatever you want all weekend is so hard, but if you find fun ways to make healthy decisions it makes it so much easier. Experimenting with meals and smoothies and drinks can be tedious until you find the right ones that you actual enjoy eating. Don’t fall into the trap that you need to do a juice cleanse or only eat salads in order to get back into shape. It is very unsustainable, and you will go back to eating junk food right after you finish that “one-week cleanse”.In order to get my booty back into shape here are some of my practical favorite things to incorporate into my diet after a weekend of heavy eating.

  1. Lemon Water: I will preach to drink lemon water until I die. It has so many amazing health benefits that I’m amazed how many people still aren’t convinced to drink it every day. If you don’t know how magical lemon water is, then here you go: aids in weight loss, aids in hydration, great source of vitamin C, helps to clear your skin, and aids in digestion. Guys seriously drink it! add some mint or cucumber in it as well and you have a nice, fun way to drink water.
  2. Green Smoothie: Getting your greens in everyday is super hard, especially since so many people don’t like to eat spinach and kale. This smoothie is a super yummy way to add lots of greens into your diet early in the morning. This recipe is amazing to drink first thing in the morning before anything else because it is very hydrating. Adding coconut water into the smoothie adds more hydration and a little bit of natural sweetness! Try it out and let me know how you think!

1 half an apple

1 half a banana

½ of a lemon juiced

2 cups of greens

2 cups of water (I do half regular water & half coconut water)

3. Berries:  Eating fresh or frozen berries are a great source of antioxidants and are naturally detoxing. My absolute favorites are raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries. I like to eat these by themselves as a healthy snack or with my breakfast. Putting them into a smoothie, yogurt bowl, or oatmeal is also an easy way to add them into your diet when you’re trying to detox after a long weekend.

4. Green Tea: My goal is to drink this every single night as a nighttime routine. I forget very often, but the days that I remember to drink it I always feel the best! Green tea has huge health benefits that include helping in weight loss, defends your body against diseases, and has also been said to help with acne as well. These 3 benefits are things that so many people are looking for ways to improve on and drinking green tea is a super easy way to do so!

5. Protein smoothies: Every fitness guru raves about Whey Protein and loves to show off by swallowing it down dry and trying to convince everyone to do the same. I think protein powder is GROSS! Trying to mix it with milk and chug it makes me gag. I like to find new ways to add it into yummy smoothies so that I don’t cry every time I try to drink it. This strawberry Lemonade Protein Shake is delicious, refreshing and an amazing drink for summer!

½ cup strawberries

1 lemon (no seeds)

½ banana

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

¾ cup water

½ cup ice cubes

I hope you all try some of these delicious and easy detox tips and let me know what you think!
